AfrikeyeIntroductionAfrikeye came into being as a website in 1999. Alex Barrett, the founder and editor had first travelled to Southern Africa in 1998 and fell in love with the landscape people and environment. His interest in conservation and the protection of endangered species which had remained pretty well dormant, except for a fascination with wildlife documentaries, since childhood was revived with vigour and he determined to share his experience and newly acquired knowledge as widely as possible. Editorial input is now received from a variety of different sources. Because of the need to maintain journalistic integrity unsolicited submissions are always thoroughly checked before being added to the site. Contributions from visitors and readers are always welcome (please use the feedback page to make contact), however, as Afrikeye is a non-profit publication we can only offer token payments for published articles and pictures.
Research is undertaken on behalf of readers who have specific enquiries on a cost only basis, simple queries are dealt with for free particularly for students and other non-profit organisations. Afrikeye also acts as a liaison between reputable conservation organisations working in the field actively protecting endangered species and habitats and support services who can provide technical expertise and or funding. Conservation organisations seeking such support may expect to be checked so as to verify that the work that they are carrying out is in line with Afrikeye policies and vision. It is unlikely that Afrikeye will offer any grants in the foreseeable future. PrivacyAfrikeye very much values feedback from our visitors and readers. Although we are exempt from registration under the Data Protection Act 1998 we are subject to and strictly follow the rules of the act.
